“No Witness” is a series of photographs of my grandparents, who I never met yet who are nevertheless an inherent part of my family history. Captured at a time when photography was a privilege, these images now enter an algorithmic condition that destabilises their original meaning. While image-making has become more accessible, the subject itself has become removable. The result is a sense of closeness and strangeness all at once: family without familiarity, presence into absence.
